24 Weeks Pregnant

This week has been another incredibly busy week for us (when will I EVER learn to sit down? Oh yeah, when I'm ordered to.) I have been having some severe pain in my lower abdominal area, so Jamey and I headed up to triage last night to be checked out. They did that super fun pelvic exam and then ran a few tests. They said baby is nice and high and my body is showing no signs of preterm labor which is wonderful. But one of the tests they ran was for a protein called fetal fibronectin, which is secreted before your body gets ready to give birth, and mine came back positive. It still could mean nothing (as it pretty much tells you more if it's negative), but the doctors are keeping a close eye on me for right now and kept me overnight last night for observation. Let's just say Jamey and I have had better nights sleep before ;-) But I am home now and am told to take it easy until they see me again on Monday. So please if you could add us to your prayer list, we would really appreciate it!

On a really positive note, University of Michigan has a bigscreen tv connected to cable in every room, so I got to watch the Duke-Carolina game last night. I don't have cable at home I was really excited! ForeverDuke!!

Also, it's Jamey's birthday today (He's 30!! Can't believe he was 20 when we met).

How Far Along: 24 weeks!

Size of baby: A canteloupe...and it feels like it!

Sleep: Ha. Ha.

Total Weight Gain: Oh I'm sure I have gone past 10 pounds now. I have not stepped on the scale for a couple weeks and have not really felt the need this week! Baby should be around 2 pounds by the end of this week though!

Symptoms: Serious pain in my lower back and when I walk. It might be gross but I honestly feel like she's just going to fall out if I sneeze too hard or something. But I have been checked and reassured by the docs that that is not the case!

Movement: I have a night owl on my hands. One who does not like to be touched or pushed on. She was karate kicking the heart monitor last night!

Maternity Clothes: Pants, shirts, you name it. I can't fit my old clothes at all anymore. Oh and I will also be investing in the oh so sexy "prenatal cradle" this week because of the pain I've been in. Be jealous. I know you are :-P

Go-to eats: This is definitely my child, not a picky eater. I've been eating a lot of fruits this week, and much smaller portions than at  the beginning of pregnancy because heartburn is so bad!

Best moment of the week: Even though we ended up in the hospital, they did do an ultrasound and we got to see her dancing away in there. This girl is such a mover!

Gender: We're having a little girl!

What I wish people knew: I'm trying my hardest not to be that paranoid pregnant woman who runs to the doctor every time she feels a slight discomfort. I HAVE been pregnant before, but with Sam having no amniotic fluid around him, it was totally different and relatively painless. The nurses and doctors have reassured me that the pressure and pain I feel now is totally normal and is most likely the result of getting pregnant so quickly after giving birth, but they have been very understanding in my concerns. When I say something hurts, it really does! Just ask the doctors who delivered Sam and listened to me laugh between (and through) contractions!

What I’m looking forward to: We get to see our girl again on Monday. One week closer to holding her in our arms. We have been waiting almost 2 years to bring home a baby!

The Hardest Part

One year ago today I had my very last prenatal checkup. I saw both my maternal-fetal medicine specialist and my ob/gyn. My blood pressure was great. Gabriel was still there and moving. There was no indication that within 24 hours my liver would start to fail. I didn't know that April 13th, 2018 would be the last time I ever saw my baby on an ultrasound. It would be the last time I heard his heartbeat. I didn't know that the next morning a pain would begin. The next day I would meet my sweet little 2-month-old nephew. I wouldn't be able to eat because I just wasn't feeling well. I would stay up late with the pain, sipping water and waiting for it to pass. The next night would be spent in the ER, not knowing we would be meeting Gabriel face to face just 10 hours later. One year ago was the beginning of goodbye to this teeny boy. And I had no idea. Wednesday morning. It's time to get ready to leave. Except it's 3:00am. I keep waking up, worried tha

We Look Like Four

6 years ago I celebrated Mother's Day with no baby in my arms. Sam had died 2 weeks before. The year after that, I was pregnant with Mira and still had no baby to hold. The year after, Mira gave me the gift of the stomach flu. ;) The last few years have been fairly "normal" with the exception that one of my children was not there. And this year, I will celebrate with half of my children. There is nothing easy about this. One thing I grieve is I will never have all of my children in one picture. I asked the photographer to take one with Mira and Edward when they came to visit us at the hospital. I'd said, I don't care if it's crazy or no one is looking. I just want one with us as a family of 5. That's what we have. One picture of the 5 of us. One. We're a family of six, but out and about we look like four. We don't look like our hands are full with just the two. We don't know what it's like to juggle a baby carrier while chasing do

A New Way to Celebrate

"But He could have saved my boys.  He could have . I'm so angry He didn't. I'm going to have to work through that with God, and I'm going to need time to do it. This isn't a quick fix, and there is no band-aid big enough to patch this damage. This cut is so deep it's going to take some major reconstructive surgery." I wrote that nearly two years ago. Two years. I wasn't wrong. There has been no quick fix. There was no band-aid. I'm still working through this with God. I still need time. I'll likely be working on this grief until it's my turn to leave this world. What I can  say is the waves have settled a bit; the intensity of the grief not quite so severe. I don't talk about them as much anymore. I no longer desire to go back to the hospital and cradle their cold bodies. We're done having children....even that  thought isn't as painful as it was just a year ago. Sam's birthday is April 30th. Gabriel
