When you're having fun...

Time flies when you're having fun...how in the heck did 3 months go by already? I absolutely am blessed to watch my daughter grow up. To see things through her eyes (why is bath time so hilarious? And what is it about rotating fans that are so mesmerizing?)

3 months have come with so many new and exciting things like...
Enjoying Saturday morning cartoons, like every good kid!
1. Mira LOVES t.v. (I know, I know, what kind of mother am I?) But to be perfectly honest, Jamey and I love it too. It's just our thing, we aren't even picky. We watch everything from Once Upon a Time to American Horror Story...so it's kind of hard to find something we don't like or haven't seen...although in the near future we're going to need to pick more kid-friendly stuff. Do we exercise as often as we should or read as many 'intellectually stimulating' books as we should? Probably not. But we do our best; we're healthy and can run with the genius crowd (yeah I said it, we're geniuses-we hide it well don't we?) but we don't center our lives around any one thing. Mira will be as well rounded as we are...so I guess she's doomed to be at least a little nerdy ;-)

Not even pretending to be asleep.
2. Mira is probably the crankiest baby I've ever encountered when she's tired. But our main problem is not catching her sleepiness until it's in full 'huge meltdown screaming like she's dying' swing. And then she refuses to let us do anything to help her. Her poor little eyes get swollen and puffy, while her face blotches up (blotchy cry faces run in the family, you're welcome Mira), and there is no amount of kisses in this world that will turn that frown upside down until she's good and ready. Or falls asleep...whichever. We're getting better at reading her, so bedtime IS getting easier for all of us...I mean, once she's down she's out for about 9-10hours so I can't really do too much complaining can I?

Oh my goodness she's already driving...
3. Playtime is seriously fun, and at this point Jamey is really into the toys. Did I say Jamey? I meant Mira ;-) She's becoming so interactive with the world and finally starting to reach out and test things (mostly with her mouth), and it's just so fun to watch her. See the clear cylinder with colors inside to the left? Spinning that thing is hilarious. I have never seen a baby's eyes get that big! Mira is definitely a mover as well, so sitting upright and being able to bounce a bit really helps get out some of that pent up energy...which in turn helps with the nighttime difficulties.

What's most amazing to me though, is the physical growth this girl has experienced in just 90 days (she could be her own infomercial!):
I'm raising a little cue ball. *Sniff*
I just don't know where her beautiful dark hair has gone. It's still there in the back (and it's pretty long too), so maybe a comb-over will be in order soon? Ha!

So this is just a little tidbit of what life around here is like these days. We might look like we're having a ton of fun all the time but in reality Mira spent most of today on the kitchen floor crying for me while I spent the day cooking. Sounds picture perfect huh?
Mira's sad face.
I made it up to her with her first experience in the big bathtub (with the jets on and she loved it!), a little baby body massage, and a nice full bottle of cereal though.

Although it's not always perfect, we're truly enjoying growing this little lady. Knowing what it's like to miss out on a lifetime of memories with Sam, we won't take the ones we get to make with Mira for granted. Praise the Lord for this beautiful blessing. :-)

The Hardest Part

One year ago today I had my very last prenatal checkup. I saw both my maternal-fetal medicine specialist and my ob/gyn. My blood pressure was great. Gabriel was still there and moving. There was no indication that within 24 hours my liver would start to fail. I didn't know that April 13th, 2018 would be the last time I ever saw my baby on an ultrasound. It would be the last time I heard his heartbeat. I didn't know that the next morning a pain would begin. The next day I would meet my sweet little 2-month-old nephew. I wouldn't be able to eat because I just wasn't feeling well. I would stay up late with the pain, sipping water and waiting for it to pass. The next night would be spent in the ER, not knowing we would be meeting Gabriel face to face just 10 hours later. One year ago was the beginning of goodbye to this teeny boy. And I had no idea. Wednesday morning. It's time to get ready to leave. Except it's 3:00am. I keep waking up, worried tha...

A New Way to Celebrate

"But He could have saved my boys.  He could have . I'm so angry He didn't. I'm going to have to work through that with God, and I'm going to need time to do it. This isn't a quick fix, and there is no band-aid big enough to patch this damage. This cut is so deep it's going to take some major reconstructive surgery." I wrote that nearly two years ago. Two years. I wasn't wrong. There has been no quick fix. There was no band-aid. I'm still working through this with God. I still need time. I'll likely be working on this grief until it's my turn to leave this world. What I can  say is the waves have settled a bit; the intensity of the grief not quite so severe. I don't talk about them as much anymore. I no longer desire to go back to the hospital and cradle their cold bodies. We're done having children....even that  thought isn't as painful as it was just a year ago. Sam's birthday is April 30th. Gabriel...

On Not Writing.

Photo by Aaron Burden on Unsplash Kaila...why don't you write? I stopped writing, really writing , almost 3 years ago.  Sometimes I share my old posts. Sometimes I just read them on my own, so glad I put words to my feelings at the time.  Sometimes they remind me that the feelings haven't gone away. Last night as I put the kids to bed, Edward said, Mom, I know what I want for Christmas.  What's that, buddy? He paused for a moment. I want a wittle brudder. This isn't the first time he's asked. It likely won't be the last. We're honest with Mira and Edward that we can't have any more kids; and to try would risk my life. There's a bit of confusion just because of their ages, but they're getting to the point where it's really starting to settle in. Mom, can we go get a baby? Like, adopt?  We've walked this thought-road as well, weighing our options. We've weighed every. single. option.  We've considered trying again, rolling the dice...
